Latching-typed of electromagnet is kind of open frame type but with advantage of permanent magnet. Plunger will move toward to the center of solenoid body while energizing, but it will be still “holding” at the same position even after de-energizing because of the existing of generated magnet field. With the characteristic, customer could get the benefit of power saving, and also avoid the risk of coil being burnt out.

The latching type single coil design is to maintain a single group of coil design. When the current is passed, it passes through the coil, a magnetic field is generated and the plunger is drawn in. After the device is opened or closed by the action of the plunger, the coil can be powered off at that time, and the permanent magnet is used to hold and maintain the plunger in the same position to achieve the function of power saving. If the plunger needs to be returned, it can be used by reverse voltage energizing.

Usually a double-layered coil electromagnet has three lead wires to control the pull-in and release action. The coil structure is divided into inner-coil and outer-coil, and one of the lead wire is called collinear. By this kind of design, customer could switch the plunger status as they wish.

Double-coiled electromagnet is specific designed for the requirement of long-termed energizing. First coil is used to generate pull-in force by giving high current; second coil is used to maintain the plunger position at zero stroke by giving tiny current. With this kind of design, electromagnet could work with 100 duty cycle with chronic energizing status.
Holding force will be affected by surface flatness, smoothness, or even the thickness of electro-plating.
